Percent Rise / Fall Calculation
A simple calculator to determine the percentage increase or decrease. Enter two of the three values: the original value, the new value, or the percentage increase or decrease. The missing value will be calculated. If you enter a percentage, please select whether it represents an increase or a decrease. For example, a decrease from 4321 to 1234 corresponds to a decrease of 71.44 percent.
From to
is a % .
Mathematically, the calculation is based on this formula:
(new value – old value) / old value × 100.
If the result is risen, there is a percentage increase. If it has fallen, there is a decrease. Falling can be interpreted as negative rising. This calculation is particularly useful for clearly and understandably illustrating changes, whether they involve financial developments, statistical data, or personal calculations.
A typical application is the analysis of price trends. If the price of a product falls from 200 to 150, the percentage decrease is 25 percent. Conversely, an increase from 100 to 130 shows a rise of 30 percent. This calculation is also indispensable in the area of investments, for example, to evaluate the performance of stocks, funds, or real estate. If a stock rises from 50 to 70, this corresponds to an increase in value of 40 percent. In everyday life, such a calculation also helps to check discounts. A reduced price of 80 instead of the original 100 represents a saving of 20 percent.
Furthermore, this method can also calculate the target value that has to be reached to achieve a specific percentage change. For example, if you want to know how much a revenue of 50000 needs to increase to in order to achieve a 15 percent increase, the calculator provides the result of 57500. It can also determine how much a value can decrease without falling below a certain percentage threshold.
