Calculate Energy in kWh

kWh = kilowatt-hours. A device with one kilowatt power comsumes 1 kWh per hour. 1 kWh = 1000 Wh.

energy = power * time
E = P * t

energy: kilowatt-hours
power: watts
time:

Please enter two values and the time unit, the third value will be calculated.

This is a simple calculator to calculate energy in kilowatt hours from power in watts and time in one unit. There are other calculators for converting energy units, multiple time units and different types of energy.

Electricity is a type of energy. Kilowatt hour is generally the unit that is stated on the electricity bill and watts is the unit that is stated as power on most devices. Therefore, the calculator uses these units.

Another form of energy is mechanical energy, in which a force acts on an object with mass and this therefore moves a distance. The energy converted in this process is called work. In contrast, kinetic energy is the energy used to set an object in motion or to change its motion. Another form that is often encountered is chemical energy, in which substances change their composition and in the process consume or release energy.

The SI unit of energy is the joule, also called a watt-second or newton-meter depending on the type of energy. But one joule is very little. One watt-hour is equal to 3600 joules, since an hour has 3600 seconds. Accordingly, one kilowatt-hour has 3.6 million joules.
