W VirginisThis is the eponym of the Population-II Cepheids or W Virginis stars. They are similar to the Delta Cepheids, but are smaller, even lighter than the Sun, and much older.Like with the Delta-Cepheids from their period length can be reasoned well-defined to their luminosity and therefore to their distance, however with a different formula. This in the past had sometimes led to miscalculations caused by mix-ups between the two types. Constellation: Virgo Distance: 11 608 light-years Spectral class: F0 - G0 Visual magnitude: 9.7 - 10.9 Luminosity: 800 - 1700 * Sun Mass: < 1 * Sun Diameter: 28 - 39 * Sun Pulsation period: 17.2736 days Back: List of Prototype Stars |
