Galaxy NGC 4816

The elliptic giant galaxy is one of the biggest members of the Coma cluster. It emerged through the melting of several other galaxies a long time ago. In the galaxy's center there exists a counterrotating disk, supposedly a remnant of a progenitor galaxy.

Distance: 300 million light-years
Visual magnitude: 12.9
Diameter: circa 500 000 light-years
Type: E/S0
