Our Milky Way

Our home galaxy is normal sized for a barred spiral galaxy. The bar has a diameter of about 27 000 light-years. From its ends two large spiral arms arise. In its center is the black hole Sagittarius A*.

Diameter: 100 000 light-years
Type: SBb or SBc
