Galaxy M 102

This spiral galaxy has only a weak spiral structure. It is distinctly smaller than our Milky Way but contains about the same amount of stars. It has a strong, good visible dust lane around its center and, parallel to this, a lane of young blue stars.

Distance: 44 million light-years
Visual magnitude: 11.1
Diameter: 60 000 light-years
Type: S0 Seyfert
