WR 20a

A very big pair of two Wolf-Rayet stars. Both are very unstable, outcast huge masses of gas and interchange it. In maybe one million years the first should explode as supernova.

The pair is part of the young and large star cluster Westerlund 2.

Orbit period of WR 20a A and B: 3.686 days
Age: 2 - 3 million years
Distance: 20 000 light-years
Visual magnitude: 15
Luminosity: 1.15 million * Sun
