Theta CarinaeThis blue star lies in the open cluster IC 2602. Admittedly it is only a few million years old, much younger than the cluster with its 34 million years. However, it is behind the expected evolution for a star of this age and mass. Maybe Theta Carinae wasn't always this large and is really a blue straggler.Constellation: Carina Distance: 439 light-years Spectral class: B0Vp Visual magnitude: 2.74 Luminosity: circa 20 000 * Sun Mass: 14 * Sun Diameter: 5 * Sun Back: List of big and giant stars 06/26/2007 |
