T Leporis

This Mira-variable red giant pulsates with a period of 380 days, losing about the mass of Earth with each pulsation. Surrounding it, the giant already built several atmospheric layers consisting of molecular gas and dust.

This near-infrared image is one of the sharpest images of a star so far.
