Sher 25

Sher 25 is a good candidate for a soon to come supernova. The star is comparable with the progenitor of the Supernova 1987A in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Due to its large size the blue supergiant never went through the stadium of a red supergiant.
The star is surrounded by a cloud called Hourglass Nebula, which it outcasted about 6600 years ago.

Distance: 20 000 light-years
Spectral class: B1.5
Luminosity: circa 300 000 * Sun
Mass: circa 60 * Sun
