S Monocerotis

The young variable blue star is near the center of the stellar nursery NGC 2264 and illuminates it.
The nebula is about 20 million years old, S Monocerotis should be much younger.

Spectral class: O7
Visual magnitude: 4.2 - 4.9
Luminosity: 250 000 * Sun
Mass: circa 40 * Sun
