RR Lyrae

This is the eponym of an own class of stars, the RR Lyrae variables. These stars, which fusion helium to carbon in their core, are related to the Delta Cepheids, but are smaller and have a shorter period. Like Delta Cepheids these can be used for measuring distances, but their relationship between period and magnitude is different.

RR Lyrae is a halo star, so it doesn't belong to the galactic disk.
